Death is an Opportunity
A Poem
When I open myself up,
Emotions settle in my gut.
Death is an opportunity,
For spirits to speak through me.
My grandmother spoke poorly of her sister-in-law one day.
A weight pressed against my back and said, “I have something to say.”
Death is an opportunity,
For a spirit to defend, to rectify.
I watched a documentary about a murdered girl.
She heard her name, watched her sister cry for her.
Death is an opportunity,
For someone to hear her story.
Death is not nothingness.
Spirits, energy, wait for a witness.
Death is an opportunity,
To regain an identity.
Thank you!
